it's 3am but I'm gonna jot down some ideas anyway so I don't forget!!! so much of this is subject to change lmao

● I'm undecided on name, I kind of like Alaric? But I tend to gravitate toward names that start with A for some reason lmao... Blanche is a cute name, I can definitely find something French to go along with it if you want to stick to similar naming schemes! (Alaric is German, btw.)
● Also undecided on age, I can probably roll anywhere from mid-twenties to early-thirties, though the pb looks like mid-twenties.

(for now I'm just going to be referring to him as Alaric, but again, name's totally up in the air!)

● Alaric's from a noble family, one of those types that always pride themselves on supplying the kingdom with excellent soldiers that they hand-pick and train. Their extra sons (and daughters sometimes) usually end up in service to the kingdom.
● That's basically what happened to Alaric, he's the third son of this family, so he was yeeted off to go become a knight because there's no way he's ever taking over as head of the family.
● He doesn't mind being a knight, in fact he likes it! Probably because it's an excuse to fight a lot and also kill people, which he is both very good at doing and very fond of doing.
● Tbh the whole constant war thing was never bad in his eyes (presumably the nobles are also of the opinion that constant war = displays of power = a good thing, so he too operates under this assumption) but he's loyal above all else, and his loyalty is to Blanche. He doesn't necessarily think she's wrong to want peace either, but man it'll be boring if he can't do a kill anymore??
EDIT: Actually, coming back to this to say that I'm not totally sold on this backstory either, so here's a few more vague ideas because I'm indecisive at 4am!!

● Alaric's dad is a noble, but his mom was a servant aaaand his dad didn't exactly want to take responsibility for him. So despite having the exact looks of that noble family, he's not one!! He's pretty damn bitter about it as a result; he joins the knights to make money to help his mom out or something lmao.

● He's not a noble or related to them at all, instead he's a literal nobody. He came from some small town and no one really knows much about him, but he showed up to join the knights and blew the competition away. They decided to allow him to join despite his lack of any real concrete background, and eventually he worked his way up to being someone important. (Maybe he's hiding his identity or maybe he literally is just some orphan from a small town or something, idk.)

That's all I've got for now though, I'm going to bed lmao.

● He uses a sword! A single-handed rapier-type sword that's light and fast. Alaric is likewise light and fast; he's more +atk than +spd, though.
● I'm thinking maybe his family passes down magic or something and that's something he uses defensively? So no fireballs or anything, but he can create shields and do things like use a gust of wind to boost his jump height, stuff like that? Idk I don't have that ironed out yet lmao.
● Either way, he's not exactly your typical royal guard!! And tbh he's more like an attack dog anyway.

● No idea how he and Blanche met up and how they ended up working together through all of this, but here are a few thoughts!!
● Alaric was assigned to be Blanche's bodyguard because of how well he performed in whatever knight tests we've got. Since no one ever expected Blanche to be anything other than The Youngest Princess, they figured it was fine if he wasn't the typical guard type. They bonded over time (years?) and he's loyal to her above the kingdom now.

● Blanche requested Alaric specifically to serve her, for whatever reason. Maybe she saw him in training and thought he'd be useful, or maybe she decided it would be better to befriend him/make sure he's on her side/try to get his family on her side by recruiting him?? It could be an entirely mercenary reason why she picked him, but it could also be something like "she tried to sneak out of the castle one night and was nearly killed by an assassin or something, he came to the rescue" and that's why she picked him, but that's up to you!!

● Maybe his family doesn't just supply knights but instead supplies bodyguards for the royal family?? So maybe this position is an expected one and not really something either of them have any control over. This could be along the lines of Edelgard and Hubert, where they've known each other since they were kids, but maybe they didn't get along at first, or something.

● Alternatively, maybe he wasn't her personal bodyguard at all, and instead they ended up working together through coincidence. Or more likely, they already knew each other when she started hatching this scheme and he agreed to go along with it for whatever reason. Childhood friends is still a possibility here depending on how close their families were, but maybe she just had more contact with the knights and they met through that.

● Or for the more opportunistic angle on his end, maybe he caught her planning this/carrying it out and basically sided with her because it seemed like she'd win/become the next queen??

I'm also down for whatever dynamic you want them to have starting out! Blanche sounds like she's very good-aligned while Alaric is........ not lmao. But he's more of an attack dog than like, pure chaotic evil. As long as he's got something to do and focus on, then he's totally fine, even if he's a little "ehhh" on the end goal of no war lmao.

I do like the idea that he's sworn to her service, whether that's a bond that existed beforehand or something they chose to do during/after all of this!!
