Name: Princess Queen Blanche Lamarre. Age: thinking early to mid twenties, tbh.
misc fiddly bits: gonna make a journal entry at some point but i'm feeling inspired to try and make a stat/growth spread for this girl. godspeed.
basic facts (backstory):
- Blanche was born into the royal Lamarre family, and of it's four children, she was the youngest of them. Though trained to be refined and poised, Blanche never really had a good relationship with her parents. - For starters, they were a bunch of war-mongering assholes. For as long as Blanche has remembered, their country has been seeking out war after war to destabilize the countries around them and take over. Both her mother and father spearheaded these terrible deeds, and for as long as Blanche has lived, she's despised her parents for such things. - Of the royal children, she was the one who dealt with the people the most; she probably went into town often, and she got to know the townspeople pretty well and learn their suffering. Which if anything really got the ball rolling on her needing to do something about her parents. - Blanche was often treated poorly by both her parents and her siblings alike; the butt of their jokes, the object of their ire, teased all the time by her siblings for being soft-hearted. It's what inevitably resulted in her hardening her heart. - Eventually, enough was enough and with years of careful planning alongside Alaric, she saw her family killed; Alaric taking care of the siblings, and with him watching her back, Blanche taking care of her parents. (Either by way of magic or by sword, but either way, they did not go gentle into that goodnight to say the least.)
basic facts (powers):
- Blanche specializes in dark magic! I'll have her be rather slow in comparison to Alaric, but in terms of FEH stats she's the unit you'd see with a +Atk superboon on a base 41 attack stat. Girl nuke. Girl also has probably a poor HP/Def stat in exchange. (I have not decided if she got away with training this in private or something else, but for now, I'm gonna go with 'she's got an innate affinity for it she's been training for a while'.) - She also has a fair amount of training in white magic as well; she does double duty as both the party healer and the party mage, basically, at least at the start. Still, she heals about as hard as she hurts, which is to say a lot, but probably has less utility than a normal healer we'll get later. - She might also have some MINOR sword experience, by way of like. Being a little cautious about using her magic to kill her parents. ("alaric can i borrow a sword to kill mom and dad" "but you don't know how to use it" "well teach me" "alright alright" and then she just fucking stabs them. incredible, 10/10.) Basically, in 3H terms, swords would probably be her hidden talent. Not quite attached to this though. - i'll go more into this shit on the journal entry when i make it
basic facts (personality):
- Blanche is a woman who has been taught well in the art of being refined and poised; she's a woman who can play her part well as a noble when push comes to shove, but there's definitely almost always a cold, icy air around her that keeps most people at arms length. - Most people might be inclined to call Blanche emotionless, or simply very severe even on her good days. It's probably because of the fact that she uh. Kind of sucks at expressing herself? Do we have a charisma stat in this damn party is the real question of the hour jfc. - But for all of her seriousness, she's got a different face that she shows the people; one that loves to help others, and is more than willing to keep people safe with every bit of strength she can muster. - Basically, she's Chaotic Good; Blanche acts for the good of the people, but her actions are definitely things that most would deem reprehensible. Like murder! Mostly murder. - i need to decide on more shit but like. i think she's PRETTY damn violent deep down? she doesn't solve every situation with violence and of the two, blanche is almost certainly the more yielding hand to alaric's, but even blanche has her moments of white hot rage that might make her just as bad as him when provoked lmao. (i'm not entirely attached to this though, and i'm willing to nix if it'd be better if she were less. this.) - also, she's not very good at expressing happiness. like, at all. girl legit does not know how to smile anymore. she can express anger and even cry surprisingly easy, but actual happiness tends to get just...more of the same stony expression as ever. - She's a very objective person; Blanche usually tries to think logically about any given situation and go for the best option. It's just that she tends to be rather insane and risky when the best option requires it. See exhibit A: TANKING A POTENTIAL LIGHTNING BOLT BECAUSE HER SERVANT WOULD DIE IF HIT WITH IT.
it's 3am but I'm gonna jot down some ideas anyway so I don't forget!!! so much of this is subject to change lmao
● I'm undecided on name, I kind of like Alaric? But I tend to gravitate toward names that start with A for some reason lmao... Blanche is a cute name, I can definitely find something French to go along with it if you want to stick to similar naming schemes! (Alaric is German, btw.) ● Also undecided on age, I can probably roll anywhere from mid-twenties to early-thirties, though the pb looks like mid-twenties.
(for now I'm just going to be referring to him as Alaric, but again, name's totally up in the air!)
● Alaric's from a noble family, one of those types that always pride themselves on supplying the kingdom with excellent soldiers that they hand-pick and train. Their extra sons (and daughters sometimes) usually end up in service to the kingdom. ● That's basically what happened to Alaric, he's the third son of this family, so he was yeeted off to go become a knight because there's no way he's ever taking over as head of the family. ● He doesn't mind being a knight, in fact he likes it! Probably because it's an excuse to fight a lot and also kill people, which he is both very good at doing and very fond of doing. ● Tbh the whole constant war thing was never bad in his eyes (presumably the nobles are also of the opinion that constant war = displays of power = a good thing, so he too operates under this assumption) but he's loyal above all else, and his loyalty is to Blanche. He doesn't necessarily think she's wrong to want peace either, but man it'll be boring if he can't do a kill anymore??
EDIT: Actually, coming back to this to say that I'm not totally sold on this backstory either, so here's a few more vague ideas because I'm indecisive at 4am!!
● Alaric's dad is a noble, but his mom was a servant aaaand his dad didn't exactly want to take responsibility for him. So despite having the exact looks of that noble family, he's not one!! He's pretty damn bitter about it as a result; he joins the knights to make money to help his mom out or something lmao.
● He's not a noble or related to them at all, instead he's a literal nobody. He came from some small town and no one really knows much about him, but he showed up to join the knights and blew the competition away. They decided to allow him to join despite his lack of any real concrete background, and eventually he worked his way up to being someone important. (Maybe he's hiding his identity or maybe he literally is just some orphan from a small town or something, idk.)
That's all I've got for now though, I'm going to bed lmao.
● He uses a sword! A single-handed rapier-type sword that's light and fast. Alaric is likewise light and fast; he's more +atk than +spd, though. ● I'm thinking maybe his family passes down magic or something and that's something he uses defensively? So no fireballs or anything, but he can create shields and do things like use a gust of wind to boost his jump height, stuff like that? Idk I don't have that ironed out yet lmao. ● Either way, he's not exactly your typical royal guard!! And tbh he's more like an attack dog anyway.
● No idea how he and Blanche met up and how they ended up working together through all of this, but here are a few thoughts!!
● Alaric was assigned to be Blanche's bodyguard because of how well he performed in whatever knight tests we've got. Since no one ever expected Blanche to be anything other than The Youngest Princess, they figured it was fine if he wasn't the typical guard type. They bonded over time (years?) and he's loyal to her above the kingdom now.
● Blanche requested Alaric specifically to serve her, for whatever reason. Maybe she saw him in training and thought he'd be useful, or maybe she decided it would be better to befriend him/make sure he's on her side/try to get his family on her side by recruiting him?? It could be an entirely mercenary reason why she picked him, but it could also be something like "she tried to sneak out of the castle one night and was nearly killed by an assassin or something, he came to the rescue" and that's why she picked him, but that's up to you!!
● Maybe his family doesn't just supply knights but instead supplies bodyguards for the royal family?? So maybe this position is an expected one and not really something either of them have any control over. This could be along the lines of Edelgard and Hubert, where they've known each other since they were kids, but maybe they didn't get along at first, or something.
● Alternatively, maybe he wasn't her personal bodyguard at all, and instead they ended up working together through coincidence. Or more likely, they already knew each other when she started hatching this scheme and he agreed to go along with it for whatever reason. Childhood friends is still a possibility here depending on how close their families were, but maybe she just had more contact with the knights and they met through that.
● Or for the more opportunistic angle on his end, maybe he caught her planning this/carrying it out and basically sided with her because it seemed like she'd win/become the next queen??
I'm also down for whatever dynamic you want them to have starting out! Blanche sounds like she's very good-aligned while Alaric is........ not lmao. But he's more of an attack dog than like, pure chaotic evil. As long as he's got something to do and focus on, then he's totally fine, even if he's a little "ehhh" on the end goal of no war lmao.
I do like the idea that he's sworn to her service, whether that's a bond that existed beforehand or something they chose to do during/after all of this!!
Okay new comment since I've got the journal up and everything!! Hammering out backstory stuff in here, don't mind me!!
● Alaric is the illegitimate son of one of the more powerful and recognizable noble families in the kingdom, the Vernier family. They supply knights to the kingdom regularly, and that often includes their own sons/daughters. His mom was a maid at the estate, where she and the head of the house (Cornett) had a short-lived affair. Alaric was born of this union; his mom was kicked out before he was born. This didn't cause a huge fuss outside the manor - illegitimate children are pretty common in noble families. ● Unfortunately for him, Alaric was born with the trademark features of the Vernier family - blond hair, and red eyes. As he grew up, he ended up looking damn near identical to several of his half-brothers. (He could easily be mistaken for the half-brother closest in age to him, Curtis, who is less than a year younger than he is.) ● His mom scraped by throughout his entire childhood. Since she was kicked from the family, she wasn't able to get work at any other noble house as a maid, and instead had to work several jobs just to make ends meet. She did her best for him, but she had been pretty young when she had him, so things were never easy on either of them. ● Alaric enlisted with the knights as soon as he could, and became a squire at ~13. He obviously wasn't permitted to see battle until he'd trained with them for awhile, but he took to that training much faster than any of his peers. He became a full-fledged knight around the same time they did, but he was promoted quickly and started making a name for himself. ● He was repeatedly thought to be from the Vernier family, and constantly had to correct people about it. While he absolutely loathed his obvious connection to that family, he occasionally did make use of it without ever directly lying (basically being like "don't you know who I am" instead of claiming to be Curtis directly). If it works, it works, even if he dislikes doing it. ● He did get to see battle at some point, which only further proved that he's an extremely skilled warrior... and also that he sure does love killing. He's more of a berserker-type on the battlefield, but he can and will rein it in when he feels he needs to. ● (I'm undecided on if his mom's still alive or not. Narratively, it makes more sense for her to be dead because that's just further fuel for the fire that is DESTROY THE OLD ORDER, but on the other hand I kind of like the idea that he sends money to his mom and goes home to visit her and she's his big soft spot...)
● In terms of powers, he's mostly just a really skilled swordsman. He's +spd over +atk, but he still hits really hard anyway. Since he's more of a berserker-type, he has a tendency to get himself in trouble and get injured while fighting, but the adrenaline rush is so good he often doesn't even notice it until he's done fighting. "Tis but a scratch" is absolutely a thing he'd do even if he was missing an arm. So +spd -def, his res actually isn't terrible, and he's not doing great in the hp department either. "The best defense is a good offense" is basically his entire thing. ● While he does primarily use swords (and he's pretty good with any type of sword, though he prefers lighter ones), he always has some daggers on him as well. His aim's good, but he can't hit hard with those so they're only a last resort weapon if he's got nothing else. ● Despite preferring grandiose bloody battles, he can be stealthy and can kill silently; he isn't a sadist despite enjoying battle, and will kill quickly if he's not actually fighting someone. ● Prrrrobably no magic powers? He likely wouldn't have had any way of learning anything about them. Maybe he can learn from Blanche or maybe he's spent time studying while with the knights? Even if he did pick up anything, it'd be supportive instead of outright offensive or healing magic, he prefers stabbing things anyway.
● He dresses nicely primarily because he is the princess' guard, but also because he likes being fancy. And also as a fuck you to the noble family; he prefers red over blue for that reason as well. ● Alaric is surprisingly laid-back in personality - at least when it comes to first impressions. He can be remarkably casual with people, but he does know when to bow down to his superiors and play nice. ● At heart, he's deeply mad about everything happening in the kingdom, but it's less because of how it impacts other people and more because he and his mom were screwed over by the system. He's aggressively chaotic neutral - he cares about himself and those closest to him above all else. He isn't above screwing people over to get what he wants, but he doesn't intentionally harm others if he can help it. Basically, he's just a few shades away from being an outright attack dog. ● Despite his berserker tendencies and his love of fighting and killing, he's well-read and greatly enjoys learning. If the knowledge isn't immediately useful to him in some way, he's significantly less interested, but as long as he can find something in it that he can put to use, he's definitely here for it. ● He generally does believe that might makes right, and the kingdom's attempts to conquer aren't anything he really finds bad. This is partially because he was raised believing this, and partially because battle = good as far as he's concerned. But with that said, his loyalty is to Blanche, and serving her helps accomplish his own goals: to fuck up families like Vernier and put an end to disasters like that happening again. (But mostly just revenge on Vernier.) ● Alaric is pretty straight-forward; if you directly ask him something, he'll usually answer it. He's blunt and he prefers not to lie if he can help it. ● Despite everything, he does have a sense of honor. Admittedly that sense of honor is pretty twisted, but it does mean that he won't take any pleasure in killing people who can't fight back - it won't stop him, but he won't enjoy it either. He believes in fighting fairly when he does challenge someone who can fight back, but "fairly" doesn't mean that he'll ever be satisfied with losing. His honor is flexible, primarily because he's very good at justifying everything he does to himself. ● In short, he's an asshole who thinks he's justified in being an asshole - and even when he's doing things that are a bit too awful, he'll just justify it to himself and everything's fine. He isn't the sort to hold regrets or doubts in anything he's doing, even if that means he has to find increasingly convoluted ways to make it seem right in his own head.
- A cleric from ???; she and her fellow sisters are traveling clerics from the Church of the Fates, and they spread the gospel of the Fates where ever they are to go. Cleric-chan herself wasn't very high up in a position of command, but she was a cleric with a lot of potential in her own right.
- Sadly, tragedy struck when their paths crossed with Mage-chan; the woman was able to dispatch most of them quickly, killing Cleric-chan's fellow sisters and causing nothing but bloodshed in her path. Cleric-chan only survived because of the charm she had been entrusted by a senior sister, but she lost the use of her right arm in the process.
- Somewhat skittish by nature. Very weak physically, especially now that she's lost the use of her right arm. Still, starts off with a pretty high rank in white magic when recruited; she can POSSIBLY be recruited in Landow, but it's more likely she'll be recruited later on. Possibly a pre-promote??
- Does not support with Mage-chan. That's all I got re: supports so far.
I was thinking about arc bosses, and while we're ultimately going up against the Fates, I figure we could probably stand to have some boss (arc 2?) that stands in the way and ultimately pushes Blanche and Alaric further into their negative character development. So here's what I came up with while I was trying to get ready for bed, because I can never have ideas at a sane time!!
● We've established that Blanche's parents were attacking other countries as a show of power - so why not go up against one of those countries? I'm thinking we go for foil characters - so another queen and bodyguard duo who forcibly took the throne, maybe? ● Option 1: They took the throne because her parents couldn't handle it/were losing the war and she thought she could do better. Basically entirely self-serving and more cruel than Blanche, a proper villain. ● Option 2: Her parents were planning on surrendering/trying to strike some sort of bargain/peace treaty and she didn't think that would work/didn't want her people to be subjugated, etc. So basically similar to Blanche except going in the opposite direction - she thought going to war would lead to a better end than striking peace with those assholes!! ● Option 3: Her country actually WAS already conquered by Blanche's; she starts a rebellion that they have to deal with in an attempt to free her people/get revenge/etc. I'm still digging the idea that she killed her parents so this could be a variation on option 2 where her parents just gave in to Blanche's.
I'm thinking these two wouldn't be recruitable (no spotpass characters here!!) but this idea obviously could use some work so let me know what you think!!

Cleric-chan
- i'll think of more shit as it comes up
