✦ Hubert's dad, a Dark Knight. Exceptionally skilled on the battlefield, and equally skilled at serving as the Emperor's enforcer, as the head of House Vestra. ✦ He's just. so done. With everything, but especially the inability to have any sort of personal freedom and to exist for only one person. He's fully aware his upbringing was fucked up and he knows that his children are going to be fucked up as well, but guess what!! He doesn't have a choice!! ✦ So he deals and teaches his children what's necessary for members of House Vestra, despite his personal distaste for the entire thing. This leads to conflicts with his second son, but his other children take to it very well. ✦ Emeric absolutely had no idea how to be a dad. He sort of expected Isolde to do all the actual parenting, and then she... didn't... so everything fell on his shoulders and he had no idea how to handle it because his parents weren't exactly good examples either. So he tried, but his best efforts were still really shitty. (Example: Hubert was terrified of heights, but needed to learn how to ride a horse because that's basically necessary to get anywhere?? So he continued to push Hubert into it since he thought that would help. Guess what, it didn't!! But Hubert did learn how to ride a horse so it's Fine, probably.) ✦ Willingly backed Duke Aegir during the Insurrection of the Seven because unlike past Vestras, his family > the Emperor. Possibly allowing them the freedom he'd never had was a risk he was willing to take. He didn't actually know about all the shit happening with Those Who Slither, and had no idea what would happen to the royal family, but still chose this path because he prioritized his family. ✦ He actually did feel really guilty about what happened to Edelgard's siblings (and Edelgard herself), but how much of that was guilt he genuinely felt and how much was guilt that was more or less trained into him?? Basically, House Vestra's fucked up and he knows it, so he just kind of kept his thoughts on all of that to himself. ✦ AND THEN HUBERT COMES BACK FROM SCHOOL AND KILLS HIM, goddammit Hubert.
Appearance: Almost exactly like Hubert, actually. He's only a little taller, but definitely more buff. He has the same wavy black hair, but his is long and held back in a ponytail. He always looks just so exhausted.
FREIDA
✦ Hubert's mother. She was never actually trained to fight, because she was the daughter of a minor noble and expected to get married. So she was trained to be the perfect housewife instead. ✦ She has a minor crest, and was married to Emeric in the hopes that she'd pass her crest down to their children. That didn't work. ✦ Freida had little interest in her husband and things only got worse with each child. She eventually withdrew entirely and didn't bother trying to help Emeric raise the kids at all. ✦ She died of illness only a few years after Isolde was born.
Appearance: Tall, but very willowy and frail-looking. She has long, dark brown hair and light blue eyes. Her hair is perfectly straight and is usually tied up in a bun. Honestly, it seems like Hubert didn't inherit anything from her.
ELIAS
✦ Hubert's younger brother. He's three years younger, and a Bow Knight. Despite being trained in all the same magic and evil bullshit his siblings were, he absolutely hated it and ditched all of that as soon as he could to focus on protecting people instead of hurting them. ✦ Obviously this caused a lot of conflict with their dad, who was already so done with everything. Elias and Emeric fought frequently, especially over ethics as Elias grew up. (Emeric is so done. Please stop, he just wants to rest.) ✦ After the patricide incident, Elias ditched House Vestra's manor with Isolde in tow. While Isolde does eventually go back, Elias doesn't. He changed his name and gets to live out the remainder of his life far away from his absolutely insane siblings. He's the smart one!!
Appearance: He definitely takes more after mom, with both her hair and eye color. His hair is curly and unruly, and cut very short. He's shorter than Hubert, but much stockier. Part of that is probably from all that lance training. His features are softer, more reminiscent of his mom's.
ISOLDE
✦ The youngest of the Vestra children. She's two years younger than Elias and five years younger than Hubert. She's also a Dark Bishop! (I have no idea where she got a Dark Seal from.) Like Hubert, she took to all of House Vestra's lessons really well and is down for murder. ✦ Unlike Hubert, she could not give less of a shit about the royal family or House Vestra's duties. She's way more interested in dark magic and studying poisons - she's here for botany, let her study plants and how to use them all damn day!! ✦ In fact, she cares so much more about these that she does not give a single fuck about Hubert killing dad or the fallout of that, and she returns to House Vestra after some time away with Elias because she's more interested in seeing if her plants are still around. Also she wants her books and stuff. She will absolutely throw down with Hubert if he tries to keep her from her passions.
Appearance: She takes more after dad and looks a lot like Hubert. About the only difference is that her hair is straight and long, usually held back in a braid of some kind. Her eyes are blue, like her mom's. She's also fairly tall and thin, but she's a lot stronger than most people would assume.
